If you grew up making your own “vroom” and “pew-pew” noises while flying LEGO ships around your room, things are about to get a lot more high-tech.
At CES 2026, the LEGO Group unveiled the Smart Brick, calling it the most significant evolution to their building system since the minifigure debuted nearly fifty years ago.
This isn’t just another specialized piece. It is a standard 2×4 brick that looks exactly like the ones already in your bin, but inside sits a tiny custom computer chip. This little brain allows the brick to sense motion, tilt, and even other nearby bricks. The best part? It has a built-in speaker and LED lights, so your builds can finally “talk back.” If you tip a spaceship over, you might hear the engines sputter or a pilot shout.

LEGO Is Launching Three Star Wars Sets!
LEGO is launching this with a trio of Star Wars sets this March, including an X-Wing and Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter. These models use “Smart Tags” so the brick knows exactly what you are building. When the ships get close to each other, they can actually engage in a digital dogfight with reactive sound effects.
Crucially, LEGO kept this screen-free. There are no cameras or microphones recording your home; instead, it uses clever sensors to keep the focus on physical play. It even charges wirelessly on a little dock, so you don’t have to tear your masterpiece apart to change batteries. It is a nostalgic toy finally catching up to the future.
